Carpenter Ants
  • Carpenter ants are large blackish ants found in or around houses.
  • Establish nests in hollow logs or other pieces of wood.
  • They move into wooded doors, window sills, porches, roofs, and fire places.
  • They can be found in homes, grocery stores, hotels, restaurants, hospitals, and nursing homes.
  • Nests can occur under walls, floors, ceilings, in trash, bathrooms, and gardens.
  • There is one queen in a colony.
  • It takes three to six years to establish a colony, which consists of two to three thousand worker ants.
  • They hibernate in the winter.
  • They eat animal and plant food.
  • They contaminate food and damage structures.
  • They live near warmth and water.
  • The damage they cause is similar to water damage.
