Carpenter Ants
Carpenter ants are large blackish ants found in or around houses.
Establish nests in hollow logs or other pieces of wood.
They move into wooded doors, window sills, porches, roofs, and fire places.
They can be found in homes, grocery stores, hotels, restaurants, hospitals, and nursing homes.
Nests can occur under walls, floors, ceilings, in trash, bathrooms, and gardens.
There is one queen in a colony.
It takes three to six years to establish a colony, which consists of two to three thousand worker ants.
They hibernate in the winter.
They eat animal and plant food.
They contaminate food and damage structures.
They live near warmth and water.
The damage they cause is similar to water damage.
